To properly putty the floor in the room, you should know how to choose a good mixture for finishing and correctly apply it to the surface.
To achieve the desired result, you must follow the useful recommendations of experienced craftsmen:
puttying is not carried out at low temperatures: the process is more effective in the summer;
before sealing the main part of the surface, potholes and other floor defects must be treated
Holes to be sealed should not be more than one centimeter;
putting putty on a wooden floor is carried out only after preliminary drying of the surface material;
at the time of purchasing the ready mix, it is important to check the contents of the product by opening the lid of the package. The presence of solid particles on the composition indicates the low quality of the product;
1. before using any mixture, the instructions for working with this product are studied;
2. the composition is diluted in small parts, since with a large amount of ready-made unused mixture and quick drying, the product loses its qualities;
3. it is recommended to apply PVA glue diluted in water before puttying;
4. to apply the mixture on a concrete floor, it is necessary to bring the putty to a more liquid consistency than for finishing walls and ceilings;
5. in the presence of a large number of cracks, finely dispersed compositions are used, and the depth of the gap is filled with a coarser material, which must first be treated with glue;
6. after applying putty to all problem areas of the floor, you need to carefully clean the base with sandpaper.
For puttying wooden coatings, modern manufacturers suggest using mixtures on solvents, oil-based, water-based and polymers. It is also possible to choose different shades of fillers that best match certain tree species - birch, wenge, oak, walnut, etc.
Water-based putty. Water-based putty is environmentally friendly and absolutely safe in the process of work, it is easy to use, elastic and practically odorless. Unlike solvent-based putty, this material dries slowly in containers, and therefore has a longer shelf life after unpacking. Due to its good adhesive properties, the mixture can even be used to treat a polished base.
Among the advantages of water putty, the following characteristics are distinguished:
effective elimination of defects in wood coating;
possibility of application for alignment of joints;
moisture resistance; durability;
resistance to temperature influences;
elastic structure and the ability to repeat any surface texture.
To date, parquet putty is classified into several types.
Depending on the purpose, putty received the following names:
1. starting (basic) - used for "rough" sealing of large defects;
2. finishing - designed for the final leveling of the surface, where there are minor defects. The essence of its use is that it should be applied to a facing material or a clean base;
3. universal (for use on wood) - has a number of characteristics, combining the properties of starting and finishing mixtures.
Depending on the substances that make up the putty, there are several varieties of this tool.
Gypsum - popular due to its versatility, reliable adhesion to the base and low cost. Such a mixture can be used both for rough and for finishing application.
Oil putty is a parquet putty that goes well with any type of wood. The disadvantage of such a mixture is a long drying time due to the oil base.
Acrylic - used as a means to eliminate minor surface defects and rubbing seams. Such a mixture is created on a water basis, is environmentally friendly, has high elasticity and resistance to physical activity. There is a problem with the use of such a mixture, which consists in poor interaction with the edges of the filled cavity when applied to the coating. After some time, the joints of the flooring may expand slightly, which leads to the fallout of the putty layer.
Alkyd - made from resins from soybean oils, flax, etc. Such a mixture has many advantages: high viscosity, elasticity and ease of grinding process.
Puttying parquet is the cheapest way to repair the floor with your own hands. With this process, you can completely recreate the original appearance of the floor. If necessary, remove the old coating layer or perform scraping. After drying, the putty will become completely invisible and evenly cover the wooden floor. The mixture is mostly colorless, but it is quite effective against any chips.
The tool is used for parquet flooring in order to eliminate gaps that appear due to poor-quality installation of floor material or due to changes in humidity and temperature conditions in the room. The reconstruction process can be carried out simultaneously with grinding: at the time when a layer of varnish is applied. The main purpose of putty is to reduce surface defects: various cracks and other flaws. At the beginning of work, the parquet is covered with a special compound to protect it, and after that a mixture is applied that repeats the shade of the floor.
